The mist silently slips closer and the shadows tempt my thoughts inviting me to play. I think about denying it, but curiosity about what's in the darkness behind the mist, pulls me closer.
"HA,HA,HA" I hear laughter and move closer. The darkness extends it's fingers and encourages me to grasp it.
"Your not good enough." What? I look to see who said that. The darkness grows bigger encouraging me to dance. I find a strange comfort in the movement of our steps. As it kisses my lips I hear a whisper, "You will never be anything" I turn to find the voice.
"Why are you saying this to me?" Suddenly, a loud thunder rolls in and a cloud hovers over. The thoughts lash out at me from above. 'Look at yourself, your a mess. You can't do anything right. Everything is fucked up and you did it. You'll never be a performer, no one wants to see you. You don't deserve to be a mother. Everyone would be better off if you just disappeared. You don't matter, your invisible. Your not good enough, Your not good enough, YOUR NOT GOOD ENOUGH!!!!'
The darkness thrusts its arm around me and squeezes. I can't breathe, I feel dizzy, I want to give in and start to welcome the blackness into my soul. One more thought and I'll be gone.
"STOP! You're so much better than this." Suddenly I'm on the floor. The air rushes into my lungs and I search to find the voice. All I see is my reflection in the mirror. I smile and say out loud, "Silly darkness, you can't break me." Then I bow, "Until we dance again darkness", and leave the room.
